BEN KAHN Vintage Luxury Coat w/Removable Fur Collar & Removable Liner SZ M
Ben Kahn the furrier was renowned more for his innovation with exotic furs than for rain gear, but although this coat is more of a practical necessity than a fur, it nevertheless embodies the luxurious materials and thoughful detailing typical of Mr. Kahn's furs. The coat is ankle-length and weather-resistant with a removable fur collar and a removable quilted liner. It's a timeless style with a very full swing back formed by a deep inverted pleat in the center. The coat closes with six big brown buttons, and it comes with a tie belt. I believe the outer shell is a very tightly woven silk faille, possibly treated to resist water (water beads on its surface). The coat by itself is lined with a soft blue silk fabric, including the sleeves. The removable liner is quilted black silk and is itself backed with black silk. It also has full-length black silk sleeves that snap inside the coat sleeves at the wrists. Even the pockets are made with silk! Measurements indicate the coat is about a size 8/10 Medium allowing room for the liner and for other garments worn underneath. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size and compare with a similar garment that fits you.

MEASUREMENTS
- Shoulder width is 17"
- Underarm chest measurement is 44"
- The inverted pleat allows the hip measurement to be essentially free
- Sleeve length is 23"
- Length is 53" down center back excluding collar.

CONDITION
I believe this coat is from the 1970s, and it is in excellent condition except for some age related wear along the folds of the cuffs and the hem in the form of tiny little holes almost equally spaced around these hems. They are not obvious from the exterior but can be seen on the edges of the folds. There is similar wear in small areas elsewhere on the coat, but none is very noticeable, and none affect the wearability of this remarkable vintage coat.
